Dr. Mermer grew up the youngest of five children
in Maumee, Ohio. He attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio where he received
both an A.B. in Zoology and a Master degree in Molecular Genetics. In 1998, he
graduated in the top 5% of his medical school class at the Medical College of
Ohio and went on to the University of California, Davis for Orthopaedic Surgery
residency. Following his five year residency program, Dr. Mermer served as a
scoliosis and spine surgery fellow at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New
York City.
Dr. Mermer has been involved in basic science and
clinical research and has published his work in several peer-reviewed journals.
He has presented his work at the meeting on Advanced Spine Techniques (IMAST),
and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) annual meetings.
Dr. Mermer and his wife, Dr. Savitha Reddy, M.D.
(Family Practice), moved to Bandon, Oregon in 2004.
